CHAPTER 20

LETHAL

“Jesus! What’s wrong with her!?”

I don’t have the answer to Foxy’s question. Hell, even I’m wondering what the fuck I’m doing with this woman. After the fucker confessed what he was doing, she went rigid, her eyes floating back to whatever place she can’t get out of, and she just collapsed.

“Prez, what happened there?” Foxy asks again. Reaper is already calling Leon, our club doctor, while Foxy is helping her in the bed.

“What the fuck I know?” I snarl. I don’t even know why the fuck I’m angry. She gives me a look of irritation before throwing some water on Jade’s face. At first, she doesn’t react. But when Foxy shakes her shoulder roughly, she stirs.

“W-What—” She seems confused to be in her own bed. Her eyes are still haunted. Well, too fucking bad, because today I won’t leave her until I know everything. Until the ghost is chasing her to the point of insanity.

I won’t care if she fucking begs me to stop. I could guess a million scenarios considering she was already terrified of Mad Dog, but I don’t want to assume anymore. She has a fucking mouth on her.

“Lethal, the doc is here.” Sniper is behind me. His eyes cut to Jade for a moment before his gaze is on me. Leon walks with a smile, making her rigid body relax. I admit Doc is a good man, and being almost sixty, he has seen more than any one of us ever did. He fought for the Devils and was one of the first ones to voice his disgust for Mad Dog. And yet he’s not mad, and he’s not bloodthirsty. He knows how to heal scars.

“Hello. I’m Leon. And you are?” he asks, sitting beside her. She observes Doc but not in a way I would observe her. She is wondering. I can see it in her eyes. Is he dangerous like us? Is he like…Mad Dog? When she finds nothing wrong, she speaks.

“I’m Jade—” She stops for a second before she clears her throat. “Vixen. I’m Vixen.”

If Doc thinks anything about her nervous reply, he ignores it. Instead, he asks her how her wounds are and why she fainted.

“Um…the wounds are fine. I changed the bandage earlier. And for the fainting…I was sleep deprived.” I hear her breathe out.

A kid has a bit of better luck believing her lies.

“So why can’t you sleep?” he asks.

Such a simple question and yet she looks like she wants to run. I know Sniper has his eyes on her, Foxy is curious, and Reaper is staring shamelessly, waiting for her to talk. But her eyes are not on them; they are stuck on mine.

“I-I have nightmares. The club I worked for earlier wasn’t a good place. The memories are even worse. Cornwall wasn’t exactly…an easy person to work with.” No matter how hard I try, I can’t stop the scoff.

She’s lying again. Cornwall didn’t make her look like a ghost. Mad Dog did.

“If you don’t mind, can I ask what happened?” Leon asks slowly.
